Constructs

Constucts: PSSO (Positive Steps to Stop Offending) is a structured groupwork programme for men aged 18 or over who have offended and are assessed as presenting a medium or high risk of reoffending.  The programme has been designed using research into the types of intervention which have been shown to be effective in reducing reoffending and has been accredited by the Scottish Accreditation Panel.

The programme aims to help participants reduce the likelihood of being involved in further offending by helping them change the way they think and behave.  Specifically, the programme is designed to help participants:

  • Learn and practice new ways about how they think about and respond to problems.  This includes practicing aa 5-step systematic method of problem solving
  • Learn and practice a number of other skills to reduce the risk of reoffending such as assertiveness, dealing with conflict and resisting peer group pressure
  • Develop a detailed plan for avoiding offending in the future.
