Champion Groups

The CJSW Development Centre currently hosts 8 National Development (Champion) Groups.  These task-centred groups offer the opportunity for practitioners to get together to share expertise in order to promote best practice and improve the knowledge base in various areas of the Scottish criminal and youth justice social work field.  The groups are made up of representatives from Scottish local authorities, relevant voluntary organisations, the Scottish Prison Service, the Police, the Scottish Government, and other criminal and youth justice professionals.  Groups meet regularly at the Centre’s base at the University of Edinburgh.

The National Development (Champion) Groups currently in operation are:
  • Working with Female Offenders
  • Working with Children and Young People with Problematic Sexual Behaviours
  • Working with Children and Young People involved in Serious Violent Behaviours
  • Throughcare
  • Working with Sex Offenders in Scotland
  • ASSET Users Group
  • The Community Service Practice Forum
Groups have recently been formed relating to the areas of Restorative Justice, and Vulnerable Girls/Young Women involved in Offending.  Information on these Groups will be added soon.
