Employment Opportunites at the CSJW Development Centre

 

New posts are currently on offer at the Centre as a new team with a National Youth Justice remit is being developed.  The positions being recruited for are 2 Practice Development Officers and a Practice Development Team Leader.  Further information can be found and applications made on the Edinburgh University website; those interested in the Practice Development Officers post should follow this link, while those interested in the Team Leader position should follow this link.  The closing date for applications is 30 September 2009.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme - Check to Protect

 
The Protecting Vulnerable Groups ( Scotland ) Act 2007 introduces a new membership scheme for people who work with children and protected adults.  This will replace current disclosure arrangements for people whose post requires an enhanced disclosure.  The Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG Scheme) is expected to be introduced in 2010 (an exact date is still to be determined).   
 
In June 2009, the Scottish Government will host a series of six free information events that aim to bring organisations up to speed with implementation activities and provide an opportunity to consider and discuss aspects of the PVG Scheme.  Further information can be found on the PVG website.

Implementing the Early Years Framework: The Parenting Agenda

Information is now available on a forthcoming Scottish conference entitled: 'Transitions: Youth Justice and Criminal Justice Interface - Getting it Right', which will be held in Dundee on 17 and 18 June.  Details can be found on the Conference flyer, and further information can be obtained from your local Youth Justice Co-ordinator.

'Chaotic Lives' -  Women Offenders in the Lothian & Borders area.

This report was commissioned by the Lothian and Borders CJA 'Women Offender Group' to understand how all agencies working with women offenders can most effectively reduce their offender.  Although the report will not be officially published until April, copies are being made available electronically at the Lothian and Border CJA website.  You can also download a full copy of the report at this link.

Consultation Responses Sought

Responses are being sought to "Improving the Lives of Children in Scotland - are we there yet?: Consultation on the Scottish Government's response to the 2008 Concluding Observations from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child".  Responses are required by 2 March 2009 and you can find the relevant information here.

Edinburgh University top in Scotland for Social Work research

The recently published results of the U.K. Research Assessment Exercise 2008, which looks at the quality of research produced by U.K. Universities, has ranked Edinburgh top in Scotland and 7th in the U.K. for the social work research they produced during 2008.  Further information can be found here.
