Young People Involved In Sexually Harmful Behaviour

The aims of this group are:

  • To develop a more consistent profile of children and young people with problematic sexual behaviours
  • To explore definitions to work towards a collective vision
  • To explore working methods appropriate to this group of offenders
  • To explore best practice

The underlying philosophy of the group is that children and young people who display problematic sexual behaviours must be viewed foremost as young people to ensure their care and protection needs are recognised and addressed.

In light of this members have undertaken an exploration of practice and policy definitions and a review of current methods of working with the children and young people, with a view to promoting a consistent approach to intervention.

The data profiling and analysis undertaken of children and young people presenting with problematic sexual behaviours will be used to further promote the philosophy of care and protection, and the findings will be widely disseminated.  Already, two CJSWDC Briefing Papers have been published, as has an article in the Journal of Sexual Aggression.
